MANKATO -- Mankato West handed the Cardinals a 7-0 loss in Thursday's Section 2AA semifinal and ended team competition for the Willmar boys' tennis team.
The No. 2-seeded Scarlets dominated competition, only allowing one of the seven matches to reach a third set. Willmar's Evan Armstrong forced a third set by winning the first set of his 4-singles match.
In the remaining matches, the Cardinals were beaten in straight sets.
Besides Armstrong, Matt Horning and Aaron Sagedahl were the closest to winning a team point for Willmar. They won seven games in two sets of their 1-doubles match before succumbing to Hannan Meir and Alex Dutcher of Mankato West.
The loss ends the team portion of the Cardinals' season with a 10-9 record.
