BRAINERD -- James Neis avenged a loss at 1-singles to Brainerd's Devin Larson on Thursday, but it would be the only win for the Cardinals in a 6-1 Central Lakes Conference setback.
Neis lost in three sets to Larson on April 20 in Willmar. This time, Neis prevailed 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
"(Neis) attacked a little more at the net than the last time," said Willmar coach Loren Holter. "But the main thing is he didn't make as many mistakes. I thought we battled hard as a team. Brainerd is an excellent team."
Brainerd, which topped Willmar 7-0 in the previous meeting, improved to 10-1 in the Central Lakes Conference and 11-1 overall. Willmar dropped to 5-6, 9-7.
Brainerd won the other six matches in straight sets.
