Prep Tennis: Swoboda, Hovland claim third in 8AA

SARTELL - Willmar’s doubles team of Jordyn Swoboda and Cayle Hovland went 3-1 and claimed third place in the Section 8AA individual tournament at the Fitness Evolution club on Saturday.
Swoboda and Hovland, both singles players who teamed up for the postseason, defeated Sartell’s Claire Miller and Bridgett Maas 6-0, 6-0 in the opening round, then dispatched Becker’s Megan Nelson and Taylor Pawlicki 6-1, 6-0 in the quarterfinals.
After losing in the semis, Swoboda and Hovland defeated St. Cloud Tech’s Rebekah Zwiener and Anne Bowe 6-2, 6-7 (7-9) 6-0 for third place.
Tech’s Taylor Tarrolly and Katelyn Tarrolly won the championship, 6-2, 6-0, over Becker’s Olivia Hultgren and Rachel Lukkarila.
In singles, Willmar’s Elise Bierbaum won her opening match over Rocori’s Sophie Feldhege 6-2, 6-2 before being eliminated in the quarter finals.
The Cardinals’ Lydia Morrell fell in the first round.
