Prep Volleyball: Bluejays win 3A-North opener

PRINSBURG - Central Minnesota Christian School edged Dawson-Boyd in five sets in the opening round of the Section 3A-North playoffs on Monday.

CMCS won 12-25, 25-20, 25-15, 20-25 and 15-9.

The Bluejays advanced to play a second-round match at Minneota at 7 p.m. Friday.

Emma Van Dyken led the Bluejays with 19 kills and four ace blocks. Molly Mulder had 12 kills and two solo blocks and Elli Stoel had nine kills, served three aces and had eight digs. Coco Duininck had 38 set assists, three kills and eight digs.

The Blackjacks' Karoline Dahl had 17 kills and 11 digs, and Mary Bothun had 12 kills, a pair of solo blocks and 10 digs. Lydia Aafedt finished with 31 set assists, two ace serves and 11 digs.

RCW 1

Renville County West kept its playoff hopes alive with a strong effort in the third set but Lakeview pulled out the victory in the first round of the Section 3A-North playoffs on Monday.

RCW's Lauren Wulf finished with 11 kills, 31 set assists, two blocks and 10 digs.

The Jaguars' Avery Elfering and Katie Marr both had nine kills, and Marr also served four aces.

Sleepy Eye

Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart managed to extend Monday's Section 2A-North play-in game against Sleepy Eye to five sets. But the ninth-seeded Indians managed to end the season for the eighth-seeded Mustangs in five sets, 27-25, 19-25, 25-23, 19-25, 16-14.

Rachel Dean crushed the ball at the net with 18 kills and seven total blocks, both highs for BLHS. Sara Kottke finished with 14 kills and two blocks, and Allison Dornseif moved the ball around to the tune of 35 set assists.

Sleepy Eye will now face BOLD, the top seed in the North sub-section, at 7 p.m. Thursday in Olivia.

The Jaguars get a first-round bye and open the section playoffs on Friday.
