The Central Minnesota Christian School volleyball team counted wins against Class A’s No. 3- and No. 6-ranked teams among their five victories at the Class A Showcase in Burnsville on Saturday.
The Bluejays, ranked No. 10 in Class A, won all five of their pool and bracket matches before falling to No. 7-ranked New Life Academy in the tournament championship match.
CMCS defeated No. 6 Mabel-Canton in pool play and also turned back Tracy-Milroy-Balaton, No. 3 in the state, in bracket play. The Bluejays also defeated Murray County Central, which received votes in the last Class A poll.
“We came away with some huge wins against some great volleyball programs,” said CMCS head coach Terrin DeBoer.
The Bluejays hope to ride their momentum into Camden Conference matches this week at Canby and Minneota, and into the Willmar tournament on Saturday.
“I am looking forward to carrying the same focus and consistency into our conference matches this week,” DeBoer said.
Lexi Scott finished the tournament with 59 kills, 11 blocks and 50 digs. Erin Orred had 50 kills and six blocks, and Nicole Brouwer served eight aces and also had six blocks to go along with her 133 set assists.
