Prep volleyball: Mustangs win in five

CLARA CITY - Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart prevailed over MACCRAY in a tight non-conference match on Tuesday at MACCRAY High School.
The Mustangs won 26-24, 18-25, 25-23, 16-25 and 15-11.
BLHS’ Mariah Paulson and Kiana Johnson both had nine kills and teammates Breanna Bubolz and Brittany Schmalz both kicked in seven kills.
Madison Ehlers and Kaitlyn Krumrey split setting duties, with Ehlers finishing with 11 assists and Krumrey had 10.
Paulson also had two blocks and Johnson and Brittany Schmalz both had one. Ehlers, who served six aces, had 12 digs and Keighly Daak had 10 digs.
MACCRAY’s Carly Orwick had 17 kills and Emily Orwick had 10.
Sydney Schwitters finished with 43 set assists, four service aces and 16 digs. Schwitters and Ellie Thein both had seven kills, and Orwick had two blocks.
The Wolverines, 1-0, play at Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa on Thursday.
BLHS improved to 3-2 overall after going 2-2 at the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted over the weekend. The Mustangs play host to Springfield at 7 p.m. Thursday in Hector.
