PIERZ -- The BBE volleyball team started its Section 5A championship match against Nevis in the worst possible way and the Jaguars never fully recovered, falling in three games on Saturday night.
Nevis (24-8-1) downed the Jaguars 25-6, 25-23, 25-20, and will play Win-E-Mac in the Class A state quarterfinals on Thursday.
BBE ended the season with a 25-8 record and a second straight loss to Nevis in the section title game. The Jaguars had an identical season record after falling to Nevis in last year's section final.
This marks the fifth straight year the teams have faced off for the championship, with BBE winning titles in 2010 and 2008.
Becca Gruber led the Jaguars with 9 kills and Brittany Roelike and Miriah DeKok both had 7.
