FERGUS FALLS - Willmar pushed Fergus Falls to just its third 5-game Central Lakes Conference match this season, but unlike the other two times, the Otters came out on top Tuesday as the No. 6-ranked team in Class AA won 25-16, 25-21, 22-25, 24-26, 15-13.
Leah Ruter had 23 kills and Dani Rosen supplied Willmar (4-5, 11-10) another 16, but too many
hitting errors hurt the Cardinals’ chance of upending the Otters.
“The first two sets neither team played very well,” said Willmar coach Traci Grussing. “In the third game we played well in the beginning, got a big lead and held on. Both teams played well that point on.”
Riley Grussing, nearing 2,000 career set assists, chalked up another 55 assists Tuesday. Grussing can reach the milestone on Thursday when the Cardinals host St. Cloud Tech on Dig Pink Night, an event that raises money for breast cancer awareness.
