Prep Volleyball Roundup: Bluejays blank Dawson-Boyd

PRINSBURG -- Central Minnesota Christian School took care of business on Tuesday, allowing just 33 points in a 25-12, 25-12, 25-9 sweep of Dawson-Boyd in the first round of the Section 3A-North playoffs.

PRINSBURG - Central Minnesota Christian School took care of business on Tuesday, allowing just 33 points in a 25-12, 25-12, 25-9 sweep of Dawson-Boyd in the first round of the Section 3A-North playoffs.

The No. 6-seeded Bluejays improved to .500 at 14-14 and will play on Friday at 7:45 p.m. against No. 3 MACCRAY at Montevideo High School in the quarterfinals.

MACCRAY beat the Bluejays in four games during a Camden Conference match in the regular season.

Igniting the Bluejays on Tuesday was 18 kills from Kalley Schwitters, 12 kills from Kendra Brouwer, five ace serves from Hannah Nelson and 30 assists from Ellie Greenwaldt.

CMCS had 12 serves go for aces with Kayla Ulferts collecting three and Brouwer two. Schwitters also dug up 20 Dawson-Boyd hits.

Dawson-Boyd ends the season with a record of 2-23.

No. 9-seed Yellow Medicine East pulled off the road win in the first round of the Section 3A-North playoffs on Tuesday in Renville.

YME (8-17) plays top-seeded Minneota at 6 p.m. on Friday in the quarterfinals at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall.

Avery Elfering had 12 kills, 13 assists and 18 digs, Emma Kronlokken put away 10 kills and Mikayla Pharr had nine ace blocks and seven kills for the No. 8 Jaguars (8-17).

Libby Groen added 33 digs and Kaylee Bratsch 21 assists for RCW, which beat YME in five two weeks ago.

Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City snapped a nine-match losing streak to win its first postseason match in three years as the Falcons toppled Royalton in four games in the first round of the Section 5A-West playoffs on Tuesday.

The Falcons’ reward for winning their first match since Sept. 17 is a contest with top-seeded Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa (19-9) on Thursday in the quarterfinals.

Hannah Wilner pounded down 19 kills and Maree Lee collected six ace blocks to lead the ACGC (5-15) charge. Taryn Reinke followed with five kills and Lee also came up with 21 assists.
