ST. CLOUD - Dani Rosen supplied 15 kills and 7 ace blocks on the front line and McKenzie Hastad returned from injury to spark Willmar’s 19-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-19 win at St. Cloud Apollo on Tuesday.

The win snapped a six-match losing streak in Central Lakes Conference matches after a 4-1 start.

Coach Tracy Grussing brought in Hastad midway through the first game.

“She really played well; it was nice to have her back,” said the coach.

Hastad’s contributions included 3 aces serves and 16 defensive digs.

Asked about the Cardinals’ slump, Grussing replied “Halfway through the season the girls quit playing as a team. They were frustrated with themselves over mistakes. But mistakes are part of the game. You can’t let it get you down.

“They’re starting to comeback but they’re still up and down. They play really well and then a mistake affects them mentally.”

Section seeding is today. The team travels to the Moorhead Invite Friday for a two-day tournament.

Cami Sletta added 10 kills, Leah Ruter 7, plus 17 digs. Allie Roehl didn’t miss on 24 serves.

Willmar finished 5-7 in the CLC and is 12-12-1 overall; Apollo fell to 3-19 overall and 1-11 conference.
