Prep volleyball roundup: NLS bounces Minnewaska

NEW LONDON -- New London-Spicer lost the first game of its Section 3AA-North quarterfinals match against Minnewaska on Friday but the Wildcats recovered and swept the next three games to advance to the semifinals.

NEW LONDON - New London-Spicer lost the first game of its Section 3AA-North quarterfinals match against Minnewaska on Friday but the Wildcats recovered and swept the next three games to advance to the semifinals.

The No. 1-seed Wildcats (18-12) won 21-25, 25-19, 25-13, 25-22 and plays host to No. 5-seed Redwood Valley in the semifinals at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Minnewaska finished the season 9-15.

The Wildcats’ Sydney Stone had 20 kills, Petra Lothert had 7, Lindsay Vagle had 6 and Megan Thorson put away 5 shots.

Kelsie Rustad had 33 set assists and 20 digs.

Minnewaska’s Ariel Ostrander had 7 kills and Alison Hoeper had 6. Ostrander had 5 blocks, Emma Middendorf and Carley Stewart both had 3 blocks.

Morris/Chokio-Alberta advanced to the Section 3AA semifinals with a victory over the Thunder Hawks on Friday in Morris.

Morris/CA spread the wealth at the net. Sydney Engebretson had 9 kills, Terianne Itzen knocked down 8 shots, and Paige Schieler and Lacee Maanum both finished with 7 kills.

Haley Erdahl had 12 set assists and Chelsey Ehleringer had 10.

The Tigers also had 8 ace blocks, led by Maanum and Engebretson with 2 each. Itzen had 19 digs and Beth Holland had 17 digs and 2 ace serves.

MACCRAY squared its Section 3A-North match against Russell-Tyler-Ruthton with a game two win, but the Knights won game three and edged the Wolverines in the fourth game Friday in Montevideo to advance to the semifinals.

RTR won 25-20, 23-25, 25-15 and 25-22. The Knights play Central Minnesota Christian School on Tuesday at Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall.

Brooklyn Gould led the Wolverines with 15 kills and Ashley Dirksen had 13 kills. Emily Orwick finished with 10.
