NEW LONDON - A meeting of area volleyball heavyweights played out just as expected, which is down the wire in each of the five games.
New London-Spicer rallied to win the final two games and claim the non-conference victory behind All-State hitter Sydney Stone’s 29 kills and Kabrie Weber’s 11 kills and 4 blocks to down Central Minnesota Christian School 25-19, 21-25, 27-25, 25-23 and 15-12 at New London-Spicer High School.
CMCS’ Lexi Scott, like Stone a 2013 All-State Honorable Mention, shook off a few early hitting errors to slam home 26 kills, and she also served 5 aces, blocked 4 shots and had 14 digs.
NLS won the first game by six, the largest margin of victory in the match. CMCS rallied to win the second game, then rallied from nine points down to take the third game in extra points to push the Wildcats to the brink in the fourth game.
The Bluejays rallied from six points down in the fourth game but NLS held on for a two-point victory that forced a deciding fifth game.

Stone made just one hitting error in 55 attacks. Espi Austvold had 39 assists and Stone, Weber, Alyssa Fredrick and Carley Cronen all served two aces.
Erin Orred made two errors in 28 attacks and finished with 11 kills. Nicole Brouwer made just two errors in 122 sets and finished with 50 assists. She also had 15 digs.
NLS improved to 6-1 overall and travels to play Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa at 7:30 p.m. today in Belgrade.
CMCS is 3-1 and plays at Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg at 7:30 p.m. today in Kerkhoven.
