SAUK CENTRE - A strong showing at the net from Sauk Centre stymied Melrose as the Mainstreeters swept the visiting Dutchmen 25-19, 25-22, 25-19 Tuesday to gain a share of first place in the West Central North Conference.
It was the first loss in conference play and the first setback in 13 non-tournament matches for Melrose, which fell to 16-5 overall. It was the 15th straight win for Sauk Centre as it improves to 11-1 in the conference and 23-4 overall.
Becca Weir had nine of Sauk Centre’s 20 blocks and also put down eight kills. Mikayla Olson had a team-high 10 kills, Jill Klaphake amassed 22 assists, Taylor Triebenbach added a team-high 19 digs and Madison Moritz served three aces.
Emily Goerdt piled up 12 kills, 17 assists, 16 digs and three ace serves for Melrose. Justine Revermann supplied 12 kills and 10 digs.
