OLIVIA - The BOLD volleyball team was tested by a tenacious No. 7 seed but the Warriors were equally strong-willed, rebounding from deficits in the first two games and eventually taking down Sleepy Eye-St. Mary’s in the Section 2A-North quarterfinals on Thursday.

The Warriors needed overtime to win game one, clawed out of an early hole in game two, then wrapped up the match with a relatively easy game three, 27-25, 25-22, 25-18.

BOLD, the No. 2 seed, improved to 17-8 overall and plays No. 3-seed Mankato Loyola (21-7) in the semifinals on Tuesday in Gaylord.

Loyola defeated Springfield in five games on Thursday.

BOLD’s Baylie Kubesh played a strong game up front, hitting .372 with just three errors in 43 attempts. She finished with 19 kills.

Mallarie Steffel had 8 kills, Carly Sigurdson had 6 and Paige Larsen and Andrea Maher both finished with 4.

Kubesh and Kiah Morse accounted for two blocks.

Allison Krause made two errors in 59 attempts and had 21 set assists while Kubesh handled 35 sets and assisted on 11 kills.

Sigurdson and Steffel both dug up 17 shots and Kubesh, Larsen and Bailey Elbert all had 10 digs.

BLHS advances in 2A-North

HECTOR - Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart advanced in Section 2A-North with a 29-27, 25-20, 25-18 victory over Cleveland on Thursday.

The No. 1-seeded Mustangs will play New Ulm Cathedral in the subsection semifinals on Tuesday at Gaylord.

Kiana Johnson paced BLHS with 10 kills, 2 ace serves and 3 ace blocks.

Hannah VanderVoort added 8 kills, 16 digs and 3 ace serves, and Carley Klabunde had 6 kills and 1 ace block.
