KERKHOVEN - It's not easy to mistake the KMS High School gymnasium for the Xcel Energy Center but Friday night's KMS Quad featured plenty of state tournament-caliber wrestlers in one of the area's top events of the season.
The Saints defeated Pipestone 49-30 but fell to Section 5A competitor Long Prairie-Grey Eagle-Browerville 34-28 as well as West Central Area/Ashby/Brandon-Evansville 37-25.
KMS, Pipestone, and West Central Area/Ashby/Brandon-Evansville all competed in the Class A state tournament last year while LPGE-Browerville fell just short of a state appearance thanks to the Saints in the Section 5A tournament.
Friday night proved to be a good measuring stick for the Saints who are looking for a third-straight trip to the state tournament as a team. The Wolves edged the Saints Friday night by a pin in the final match of the dual, setting up a good battle if the two teams meet again later in the playoffs.
Individually, Will Magaard (113), Jonathan Tostenson (132 and 138), Caleb Collins (145), and Dylan Rudningen (152) each finished the day 3-0.
