Prep Wrestling Roundup: Minnewaska leaves BOLD a winner

Lakers impress in season-opening victory, 73-3


OLIVIA — Getting bonus points in 12 of its 13 wins, the Minnewaska wrestling team rolled in its matchup against BOLD , 73-3 Thursday at the Warriors’ triangular.

Mason Schiffler (132 pounds), Myles Reichmann (152) and Xander Johnson (182) all won by fall for the Lakers. Chase Smith (120) and Nathan Dell (160) both ended up with tech falls, with Dell’s coming in the second period.

The Warriors’ win came at 145 pounds when Austin Kiecker secured a 6-3 decision.

Minnewaska heads to an invitational Friday at Big Lake. BOLD competes Saturday at a tournament at Glencoe-Silver Lake/Lester Prairie.

At 132 pounds, Hammerschmidt got the fall on Kyle Hagen with two seconds remaining in the first period. At 120, Kiecker shut out Jason Wishnack for a 16-0 tech fall.

Wrestling at 285 pounds, Sweep pinned Caleb Witte in 55 seconds to put the Cobras on the board.
