PAYNESVILLE - Michael Ludwig notched a pin midway through the opening period at the 182-pound match to seal a 51-25 win for No. 4-seed Paynesville over No. 5 Eden Valley-Watkins in the Section 5A quarterfinals Tuesday.
The Bulldogs now wrestle in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Friday in Grove City. The championship match will follow.
Earlier pins from Shawn Rue at 106, Jared Kunstleben at 120, Damian Viessman at 138 and Andrew Kerzman at 145, and a 5-0 decision from Devin Meagher at 152 gave the Bulldogs a 27-16 lead.
Eden Valley-Watkins forfeited the final three weights.
Also in the section Tuesday, No. 3 Osakis rolled past No. 6 Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 49-18. No information from top-seeded Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City was provided at press time. The Falcons were to wrestle the No. 8 Long Prairie-Grey/No. 9 Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted winner.
