Prep Wrestling Roundup: SC/Melrose stuns Falcons

SAUK CENTRE -- Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City received two forfeits and got pins from Shane Whitcomb at 138 and Cameron Whitcomb at 152 to take what seemed like a comfortable 31-9 lead with six matches remaining.

SAUK CENTRE - Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City received two forfeits and got pins from Shane Whitcomb at 138 and Cameron Whitcomb at 152 to take what seemed like a comfortable 31-9 lead with six matches remaining.

But Sauk Centre/Melrose won all of the remaining matches to stun the visitors 36-31 in a West Central Conference dual on Tuesday.

Cael Blom opened the dual with a 13-0 major decision at 106 for the Falcons. Two matches later Aaron Lang won an 11-4 decision at 120 to give ACGC an early 7-6 lead.

The Falcons host Morris Area/Hancock/Chokio-Alberta and New London-Spicer next Tuesday.

United won two matches by fall and picked up 42 points on forfeits to post a West Central Conference win on Tuesday in Montevideo.

Trevon Johnson (106 pounds) and Peyton Mortenson (152), picked up pins for United, and Trystan Bukowski (126) won by major decision and Matt Henriksen won by decision at 160 pounds.

BOLD’s Jake Rauenhorst won by fall at 170 and Austin Tersteeg (195) and Manny Garcia (220) won by decisions.

The United are at the West Central Area Invite on Saturday.
