Prep wrestling: Top-ranked Minneota tops KMS

KERKHOVEN -- The top-ranked Minneota Vikings were too much for No. 8 Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg on Thursday as the visitors got bonus points in seven of their eight wins to earn a 37-24 victory.

KERKHOVEN - The top-ranked Minneota Vikings were too much for No. 8 Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg on Thursday as the visitors got bonus points in seven of their eight wins to earn a 37-24 victory.
The Vikings got pins from Avery VanOverbeke at 106, Brock Buysse at 120, Bryce Bruner at 145, Leo Buysse at 160 and Cole Hennen at 195.
KMS also won seven weights, but only Derek Krieger with a major decision at 132 and Zach Carlson with a technical fall at 182 picked up bonus points.
Minneota never trailed as it got two pins and a decision at the first three weights to grab an early 15-0 lead. KMS then got decisions from Jonathan Tostenson at 126 and Nick Meyer at 138, and Krieger’s major to cut the Vikings’ lead down to 15-10. Minneota then won three of the next four weights to take a 31-13 lead.
