RAYMOND — Dawson-Boyd found its window of opportunity early against MACCRAY.

The Blackjacks put together strong at-bats in the first inning to score three runs on Thursday afternoon. Then, they added three more in the third inning while capitalizing on some Wolverine miscues.

That cushion helped D-B fight off a MACCRAY rally as the Blackjacks left Lilleberg Field with a 7-5 Camden Conference baseball win.

D-B had four hits in the first inning. The biggest came off the bat of Aiden Swenson, who hit a two-run triple that scored Blake Thompson and Brayden Hahn. The next batter, Codie Johnson, brought Swenson home on a single.

With two outs in the top of the third, a fielding error on an infield hit by Grayson Olson allowed Johnson to score. Two batters later, a throwing error allowed Aric Gruwell and Olson to advance to home for a 6-0 lead.

Needing to forge a comeback, the Wolverines strung together four runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth. Xavier Noble and Dreyer Homan each had doubles. Then Angel Mendoza had a two-run home run in the frame.

In the seventh, Brooks Asche led off the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run. After that, Johnson was able to strike out the next two batters and coaxed a ground ball for the final out.

Thompson led D-B’s offense, going 4-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs and three stolen bases. Johnson was 2-for-4. Tygan Long was the winning pitcher after striking out two over five innings.
