SAUK RAPIDS — Ian Koosman out-dueled Alex Harren on Wednesday, helping the Willmar baseball team to a 1-0 victory over Sauk Rapids at Bob Cross Park.

Koosman got the complete-game victory for the Cardinals. The senior right-hander struck out nine, walked one and allowed three hits to help Willmar improve to 9-4 in the Central Lakes Conference and 11-4 overall.

The Cardinals went into the day up one-half game over Alexandria in the CLC standings. Alex was 8-5 and 10-5.

Sauk Rapids fell to 6-5 in the CLC and 8-6 overall.

Willmar got its run in the sixth inning on a home run by Koosman. Sam Etterman and Cullen Gregory each went 1-for-3 with a double.

Luke Pakkala, Harren and Noah Jensen all had one hit for the Storm.

Hatten went 6 innings, allowing three hits, a run and two walks. He struck out six. Sauk Rapids beat Willmar 2-1 on April 28 in Willmar.

The game originally was scheduled for Thursday, but was moved up to avoid potential rain in Thursday’s forecast.

Willmar is scheduled to play at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Becker.

Montevideo 17, BOLD 7

Brady Snell homered and hit two doubles, scoring four times, in Montevideo’s six-inning victory over BOLD at Montevideo.

Luke Kuno was 4-for-5 with a home run and six RBI for the Thunder Hawks, who had 16 hits. Jackson Baldwin went 3-for-4 with two RBI for Montevideo.

Daylen Weber was 1-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base and two runs scored for BOLD.

Paynesville 3, EV-W 2

Max Athmann slugged a home run with two outs in the top of the seventh inning to lift Paynesville past Eden Valley-Watkins at Watkins.

Athmann wound up going 2-for-3 with a run, two RBI and a hit-by-pitch.

EV-W got a couple of runners on with one out in the bottom of the seventh. Eli Nelson came on to get the save, striking out the next two batters looking.

Trent Wendlandt got the pitching win, going 6-1/3 innings. He struck out 10, walked three and allowed seven hits and two earned runs.

Landon Neiman was 3-for-3 with a run and two stolen bases for the Eagles.

Ryan Dalager and Ryan Meagher slugged homers in Minneota’s victory over Dawson-Boyd at Dawson.

For the Blackjacks, Bradyen Hahn went 2-for-3 with three runs scored. Aric Gruwell was 2-for-4 with three RBI and Grayson Olson was 2-for-2 with two walks.
