NEW ULM — The Willmar girls basketball team nearly pulled off an upset Saturday, falling to the New Ulm Eagles 69-67.
Willmar rallied from a 38-27 halftime deficit in the non-conference game. New Ulm (12-6) has been ranked in state, though not in the latest poll released Jan. 25. The Eagles were 19th in the Class AAA poll of Jan. 18.
Three players scored in double figures for the Cardinals, led by Kenedee Salonek’s 13 points. Brielle Ogdahl had 12 points and eight rebounds and Telilie Lange scored 11 points and contributed four assists and three steals.
Willmar plays marshall at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday at Willmar’s Big Red Gym.

Sophomore guard Lainey Braulick had 27 points and 10 steals in BOLD’s non-conference victory over Renville County West at Olivia.
Kenzie Visser, a 5-foot-11 junior forward, added 13 points, 12 rebounds and three blocked shots for the Warriors, who also got eight points, 12 rebounds and five assists from senior guard Mari Ryberg.
Emily Lippert led RCW with seven points and 10 rebounds.

The Bluejays rallied from a 33-21 halftime deficit, out-scoring the Flying Dutchmen 40-25 in the second half.
