Boys basketball roundup: MACCRAY storms past YME, 93-69

Prep boys basketball report for Thursday, March 3, 2022, in west central Minnesota. Seventh-seeded Wolverines play No. 2 Lakeview on Saturday in Montevideo in the Section 3A-North playoffs.

CLARA CITY — The MACCRAY boys basketball team played impressively and will get to see another game in 2022.

The seventh-seeded Wolverines beat 10th-seeded Yellow Medicine East in the first round of the Section 3A-North playoffs.

MACCRAY advances to face second-seeded Lakeview at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Montevideo.

Also scheduled to play Saturday in Montevideo in 3A-North are: No. 1 Central Minnesota Christian against No. 8 Minneota at 11 a.m., No. 4 Lac qui Parle Valley vs. No. 5 Wabasso at 12:30 p.m. and No. 3 Dawson-Boyd against No. 6 Renville County West at 4 p.m.

Also on Thursday, Minneota defeated No. 9 Canby 69-59.

In 3A-South, No. 9 Red Rock Central beat No. 8 Adrian/Ellsworth, 60-58 and No. 7 Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda beat No. 10 Edgerton, 76-48. Red Rock Central faces No. 1 Southwest Minnesota Christian at 11 a.m. Saturday in Worthington. HL-O/F plays No. 2 Russell-Tyler-Ruthton at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Worthington.

In the YME game, Isaac Post pumped in 39 points. He was 12-for-24 from the field, including 7 of 13 from 3-point range. He also was 8-for-13 from the free-throw line.

Jordan Warne had 16 points, nine rebounds and two blocked shots. Gavin Husman added 14 points and eight assists and Brooks Asche chipped in with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Isaac Strommer also had eight assists and four steals for the Wolverines.

YME finishes the season 4-20.

CCS 54, Faith Christian 42

Community Christian opened the Christian Athletic League tournament with a victory over Faith Christian at Mankato.

The Eagles had 18 steals and had four players in double figures, led by Mark Arnold’s 13 points. Arnold had seven steals. Andrew Borstad had 11 points and Will Chapin and Jonathan Reid each had 10 for CCS.

BOLD 57, Sauk Centre 48

BOLD closed out the regular season with a strong road win over West Central Conference foe Sauk Centre.

Down 24-22 at halftime, the Warriors outscored the Mainstreeters 35-24 in the final 18 minutes.

Maxwell marks paced BOLD with 18 points. Ryan King scored 13 points while leading the team in rebounds (seven), assists (five) and steals (two).

The Warriors are the No. 2 seed in the Section 2A-North tournament. They open postseason play at 8:01 p.m. Tuesday against No. 7 Cedar Mountain in Bird Island.

Playing in its fourth road game in a row to close out the regular season, Kimball prevailed in a Central Minnesota Conference game against Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City at Grove City.

With the loss, the Falcons conclude the regular season with a 9-16 record. The Cubs end the regular season at 14-12.

ACGC is the seven seed in Section 3AA-North and will begin postseason play at 7 p.m. Saturday against second-seeded New London-Spicer in New London.
