Boys basketball roundup: NLS tips improved Minnewaska, 46-42

NEW LONDON — The New London-Spicer boys basketball team had its hands full with an improving Minnewaska squad on Saturday night.

The Wildcats beat the Lakers 46-42, but only after Minnewaska led 28-26 at halftime.

NLS, now 10-7, got 20 points from Brycen Christensen and 14 points from Peyton Coahran.

Minnewaska, 3-15, had won two games in a row coming into Saturday’s non-conference game. Minnewaska beat Montevideo 62-60 in double overtime on Friday and had a 65-49 victory over Benson last Monday.

The Lakers got 14 points and five rebounds from Damon Uhde against NLS . Ethan Quelle added 10 points for Minnewaska.

NLS plays at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Annandale in a Wright County Conference West Division contest. Minnewaska plays at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Breckenridge in another non-conference game.

CMCS 70, Wabasso 48

Case Mulder scored 24 points and Ethan Bolthuis had 21 points and seven rebounds in Central Minnesota Christian’s victory at Wabasso.

Ben Van Eps had 12 points and two assists for the Bluejays.

CMCS has a Camden Conference game against Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Kerkhoven.

Ashton Dingmann had 20 points and eight rebounds, Kaden Pieper added 14 points and Gavin Kampsen contributed 13 points in Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa’s victory at Browerville.

BBE plays Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City in a Central Minnesota Conference game at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Grove City.

Lakeville 69, Montevideo 59

Lakeview improved its record to 16-4 with the non-conference victory over Montevideo at Cottonwood.

For Montevideo (8-7), Landon Stock had 23 points, six rebounds and four steals and Bradyn Schultz added 11 points, four rebounds and four steals.

The Thunder Hawks play St. James at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Montevideo.

Central Minnesota

Royalton 52, Paynesville 47
Royalton won the rematch with Paynesville in the Central Minnesota Conference game at Royalton.

The Bulldogs (12-9) beat Royalton 52-48 on Thursday at Paynesville. Less than 48 hours later, Royalton improved its record to 9-10.

Paynesville is tied for second in the Central Minnesota Conference with a 6-2 record, the same as Eden Valley-Watkins. Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa leads the CMC with a 6-1 mark. Royalton is now 4-4.

Paynesville is host to Kimball at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
