Boys basketball roundup: Storm jump out early to beat Cardinals

Prep boys basketball report for Thursday, Jan. 26, 2023, in west central Minnesota. Sauk Rapids gets up by 17 by halftime to beat Willmar 76-57 at the Big Red Gym

WILLMAR — Sauk Rapids jumped out to a 40-23 halftime lead, giving the Storm the cushion it needed to beat the Willmar boys basketball team on Thursday.

Sauk Rapids won the Central Lakes Conference game at the Big Red Gym, 76-57.

Keller Hanson paced the Storm with a game-high 22 points. Andrew Harren added 14 points. Max Loesch was also in double figures with 11.

Blake Schoolmeester was the Cardinals’ top scorer with 14 points. He also grabbed seven rebounds. Khalid Muhumed (13), Max Mobley (12) and Sam Raitz (11) also scored in double figures.

The Cardinals have dropped four straight games. They fall to 1-7 in the CLC.
