Boys swimming and diving: Willmar places 7th at CLC championship

Brainerd finishes first to claim conference title Saturday in St. Cloud

ST. CLOUD — The Willmar boys swimming and diving team finished seventh at the Central Lakes Conference championship meet Saturday at St. Cloud Tech High School.

Brainerd claimed the CLC championship after taking first place with 488 points. The Warriors were second in the dual meet standings at 6-1 but claimed the CLC title after Alexandria finished third on Saturday. Alexandria was 7-0 in conference duals.

Willmar’s top finish came in the 400-meter freestyle relay. The quartet of Colin O’Farrell, Ethan Hurley, Luke Lammers and David Lammers finished with a time of 3 minutes, 31.45 seconds, earning an All-Conference honorable mention nod. Kale Bockelman also earned All-Conference honorable mention after placing sixth in diving with a score of 318.65.

Willmar also earned the conference’s Team Sportsmanship Award.

Now, Willmar prepares for the Section 3A championship meet, beginning on Thursday, Feb. 24 and concluding on Saturday, Feb. 26. Both days will take place at Hutchinson Middle School.
