WILLMAR — The Willmar boys tennis team lost 7-0 to Fergus Falls on Tuesday.

There were several good matches, Cardinals head coach Forrest Rice said.

One was at third singles, where the Cardinals’ Miguel Garcia lost to Fergus Falls’ Nick Flugstad 6-3, 6-3.

“Miguel, we just started him on varsity singles last week,” Rice said. “He’s really good at rallying and keeping the match going. I’m not disappointed in his scores as well.”

At No. 3 doubles, Willmar’s Aaron Marthaler and Brandon Escalon-Valladares lost to Luke Schroeder and Christian Reed, 6-1, 6-4. Rice said his players made some adjustments to the warm conditions and responded with stronger play in the second set.

“It paid off with some more points on the board,” Rice said.
