STAPLES — Minnewaska’s Maeson Tank and Lauren Ankeny are headed to the state cross-country meet.
The two placed high enough at the Section 6A championships to secure spots in the state Class A meet Saturday, Nov. 5 at St. Olaf College in Northfield.
Tank took ninth overall with a time of 17 minutes, 7.0 seconds at the Vintage Golf Course. Ankeny finished fourth overall in 19:59.5
The top six finishers not on the top two teams advance to state.
Staples-Motley swept the boys’ and girls team titles. Staples-Motley’s boys scored 56 points to edge Bertha-Hewitt, which had 62 and also qualified for state. Minnewaska took sixth with 161 points. Benson/Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg was 10th with 302 points. Noah Johnson was the top finisher for Benson/KMS, taking 28th place with a time of 18:58.3

The individual boys’ champion was Brandon Kampsen of Sauk Centre. He had a time of 16:04.5.
In the girls’ competition, Staples-Motley scored 46 points to beat Wadena-Deer Creek, which had 83 points and also qualified for state. Minnewaska took third with a 91.
Audrey Brownell of Staples-Motley won the girls’ race in 18:57.4.
Benson/KMS placed 14th with 377 points. Amber Rosemeier led Benson/KMS with a time of 22:02.4, finishing in 34th place.
