ST. CLOUD — The Willmar cross-country teams saw their first action of the season at the St. Cloud Apollo Early Bird Invitational Saturday at Veterans Golf Course.
The Cardinal girls placed second while the boys took fourth.
Erin Eilers led the Willmar girls with a third-place time of 19 minutes, 59.98 seconds. Sophia Negen (ninth, 21:24.73) and Hannah Quinn (10th, 21:28.55) also placed in the top 10 as the Cardinals finished with 43 points. They finished behind St. Cloud Cathedral’s 37 points. The Crusaders’ Clara Schad won with a time of 19:43.89.
For the Willmar boys, Fathi Dubet had the team’s top time, placing 10th with 18:25.33. Soren Newberg placed 18th at 18:56.51. The Cardinal boys finished fourth with 110. St. Cloud Cathedral (34), Sartell (61) and Chisago Lakes (73) made up the top three. Sartell’s Seth Westrup was the winner at 17:30.10.
Willmar’s next meet is Thursday, Sept. 8 at Gale Woods Farm in Minnetrista.
