Football roundup: Benson goes down big to Browerville/EV

Tigers pile up 255 yards rushing to beat the Braves, 43-0.

BENSON — BENSON — The Benson football team was hoping to even its record to 2-2 on a dreary Friday night.

Instead, the Braves lost 43-0 to Browerville/Eagle Valley in a Mid State 3 District game.

Along the way and through the wind and rain, Benson lost senior running back Thomas Dineen. Dineen injured his leg in the second quarter after rushing five times for 20 yards. Browerville/EV was also up big, taking a 30-0 halftime lead.

Dineen is a South Dakota State wrestling recruit.

The Braves were held to 25 yards rushing on 19 carries. They passed 16 times for 31 yards.

Browerville/EV rushed 38 times for 255 yards and completed 2 of 4 passes for 39 yards.

ACGC 36, Maple Lake 14

Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City ran for 383 yards and five touchdowns in a Mid State 3 District win over Maple Lake at Grove City.

Jevon Williams ran for 141 yards and one touchdown on 25 carries while Kyler Pickle tallied 108 yards and two scores on seven attempts. Terrell Renne and Keegan Kessler-Gross also punched in rushing TDs.

ACGC is on the road next Friday to face Upsala/Swanville. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

BBE 16, USA 12

Luke Dingmann ran for one touchdown and passed for another as Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa held off Upsala/Swanville Area at Swanville.

It was a rematch of last year’s Section 4A championship, which BBE won 52-44.

In this one, the Patriots rushed 63 times for 293 yards and had 311 yards of offense compared to BBE’s 153. But after taking a 6-0 lead, BBE scored the next two touchdowns and converted the two-point conversions to take the lead and win the game.

BBE goes to Long Prairie-Grey Eagle at 7 p.m. next Friday.

Litchfield 28, Cathedral 8

Litchfield rallied from an early 8-0 deficit to record the victory over St. Cloud Cathedral at Clemens Stadium in Collegeville.

Cathedral took the opening kickoff and killed 11 minutes off the clock before being stopped on the 1-yard line. Litchfield took over the ball and fumbled on the next play, Cathedral recovered and then scored its lone touchdown.

Garrison Jackman had touchdown passes of 22 yards to Blake Aller and 13 yards to Jack McCann and Lukas Kuehl ran 23 times for 168 yards and a TD for the Dragons.

Litchfield heads to New London-Spicer at 7 p.m. next Friday.
