Football roundup: Second half lifts BOLD over ACGC

Warriors open up a game tied at halftime with a 35-14 win at ACGC.

GROVE CITY — A strong second half propelled BOLD to the 35-14 Mid State District football victory over the Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City Falcons on Friday night.

The teams were tied 14-14 at halftime.

In the second half, BOLD got a 29-yard touchdown run from Kaden Fischer and scoring runs of 18 and 35 yards from Hudson Vosika. Vosika also had a 37-yard TD run in the first half. He finished the evening with 20 rushes for 209 yards and three TDs.

ACGC had leads of 8-0 and 14-6 in the first half. Jevon Williams had a 2-yard TD run to open the scoring. And, Carson Borchert caught a 4-yard TD pass from Kyler Pickle.

The Warriors wound up rushing 26 times for 255 yards and passing for 92 more. ACGC accumulated 189 yards rushing on 43 carries. The Falcons gained 59 yards in the air.

Tate Sheen had 1 solo and 12 assisted tackles for the Warriors, who got an interception from Austin Kiecker.

BOLD plays host to Upsala/Swanville on Friday. ACGC goes on the road to play Kimball on Friday.

KMS 42, BBE 6

Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg’s Hunter Kallstrom tallied four touchdowns in the win over Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa at Murdock. The junior tight end/running back recorded 154 yards and three touchdowns on nine receptions and had 31 yards and one rushing touchdown on five carries.

KMS quarterbacks Jared Cortez and Isaac Rudningen combined for 240 yards and three touchdowns through the air on 12 completions. Cortez is a junior. Rudningen is a senior.

BBE has its home opener Friday against Maple Lake. Also on Friday, KMS travels to Browerville/Eagle Valley.

Kimball 54, Benson 6

A 32-point second quarter proved to be the difference in Kimball’s victory at Brock Field in Benson.

The Cubs rushed 41 times for 284 yards. Leading the way was Andy Becker, who rushed 12 times for 112 yards and one touchdown.

Thomas Dineen rushed 11 times for 95 yards, including a 54-yard touchdow run.

Benson heads to Long Prairie-Grey Eagle on Friday.

Sauk Centre 36, Montevideo 6

Elijah Fletcher ran for 166 yards and three touchdowns for Sauk Centre in a victory over Montevideo at Sauk Centre.

The Mainstreeters also had a pair of TD passes from Matthew Warring to Hunter Danielson from 19 and 49 yards out. Warring threw for 161 yards while Danielson had three catches for 77 yards.

Francis O’Malley ran for 100 yards on 18 carries for the Thunder Hawks. Their touchdown came on defense when Brady Rhode ran back an interception for a score.

Montevideo hosts Morris/Chokio-Alberta on Friday.

Paynesville 28, Melrose 0

Paynesville shut out Melrose to secure its first win under new head coach Tim Pattrin.

The game was originally scheduled to be played in Paynesville but was moved to Melrose due to power issues.

Austin Pauls and Grayson Fuchs both ran for two touchdowns.

“The kids have really bought into the things I’ve brought in,” Pattrin said. “The way we run the offense is different — there’s a lot of misdirections. … The kids are really having fun with it.”

Paynesville goes back on the road Friday to play Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted.

Renville County West rushed 52 times for 467 yards and had 549 yards of total offense in the Jaguars’ victory over Westbrook-Walnut Grove at Danube.

Jasen Jansen led the way. He rushed 22 times for 245 yards and one touchdown. Jansen also led the Jaguars with 10 tackles.

AJ Gasca rushed for three TDs and gained 72 yards on 11 carries and had a 50-yard TD pass to Isaac Haen for RCW. Haen also had a 62-yard punt return for a touchdown.

Dan Kleven had 18 tackles for WWG. He also caught a 28-yard touchdown pass from Brady Ross.
