Girls basketball roundup: CMCS surprises KMS, 54-41

KERKHOVEN — The Central Minnesota Christian girls basketball team put together one of its best performances of the season in beating Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg 54-51 on Monday.

The loss ended a five-game winning streak for KMS (7-2 Camden North, 15-4 overall). CMCS (3-3 Camden North, 7-11 overall) has won six of eight games.

Sienna Duininck led the Bluejays with 19 points, nine rebounds and four assists and teammate Lauren Taatjes added 10 points.

Acelynn Hacker had 22 points and three steals for the Fighting Saints.

CMCS takes on Dawson-Boyd at 6 p.m. Thursday at Dawson. KMS plays Renville County West at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Renville.

Freshman guard Brielle Janssen had 28 points, 13 rebounds and five steals as MACCRAY routed Renville County West at Renville.

Emma Thein added 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Wolverines, who are 5-4 in the Camden North. RCW fell to 2-6.

Holly Hinderks led the Jaguars with nine points.

Yellow Medicine East overcame a 39-31 halftime deficit to beat Russell-Tyler-Ruthton at Granite Falls.

YME had three players score in double figures: Stella Schuler (17), Hope Stark (16) and Hannah Stark (14). Schuler also had three assists for the Sting, who are 2-4 in the Camden South.

Gabrielle Borresen led RTR with 12 points and Alexis Schruers added 11. RTR is 5-2 in the Camden South.

Redwood Valley rallied from a 26-16 halftime deficit to earn the victory at Paynesville, ending the Bulldogs’ two-game winning streak.

Kendall Huhnerkoch led the Cardinals with 14 points.
