NEW LONDON — The New London-Spicer girls basketball team dominated Paynesville to remain undefeated on Monday.
Led by Dakota Rich, the Wildcats, who rank No. 2 in Class AA, defeated the Bulldogs 59-36.
“The girls came out and got after the ball like they have all year,” NLS head coach Mike Dreier said. “I have a lot of respect for the way they prepare and play on the court.”
Dakota Rich scored a game-high 17 points, including two 3-pointers, and recorded five steals.
A sophomore guard, Dakota Rich had a strong supporting cast behind her. Senior guard Jaden Coahran had 13 points and five steals, senior guard Avery Rich had eight points and four steals, and junior forward Delaney Hanson had eight points and a team-best 12 rebounds.

The Wildcats played without their leading rebounder, senior forward Ellary Peterson who is out with appendicitis. Hanson’s contributions inside were welcomed.

“No doubt about it,” Dreier said. “She’s been playing well.”
NLS (14-0) utilized a full-court press to make it difficult for Paynesville to get into a rhythm.
That press helped the Wildcats take a 37-12 halftime lead.
“That’s been one of the keys to them playing at the level they have been — the girls pressuring the basketball,” Dreier said.
Senior forward Katie Uhlenkamp led Paynesville with 13 points.
NLS plays Glencoe-Silver Lake at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Glencoe. Paynesville plays host to Kimball at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
