MONTEVIDEO — Down 41-39 with 5:37 to play, Montevideo began an 11-0 run to take the lead for good, beating BOLD 54-47 in a West Central Conference girls basketball game Tuesday night.
“It was a hard-fought game,” said Thunder Hawks head coach Anthony Jackson. “It was tight; BOLD was winning most of the game. We just had an opportunity in the last few minutes to pull it off.”
Hailey Dirksen tied the game at 41-all with a pair of free throws. Then with 5:09 left, Avery Koenen put Montevideo up for good with a putback.
Koenen led all scorers with 24 points while also coming up with 11 rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block. Tenley Epema hit four 3-pointers in a 15-point effort.

Lainey Braulick was BOLD’s top scorer with 17 points. She also had four steals. Lily Dean added 13 points, hitting three 3-pointers.
With the victory, the Thunder Hawks remain unbeaten in the West Central at 6-0. The Warriors are now 4-3 in conference play.
Montevideo next plays Minnewaska at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Montevideo. BOLD plays at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Melrose.
