MONTEVIDEO — The Montevideo girls basketball team responded well after a tough loss to second-ranked New London-Spicer on Thursday by beating another state-ranked team, the BOLD Warriors.
Montevideo, ranked 11th in Class AA, beat BOLD 61-39. The Warriors are ranked No. 8 in Class A.
“I thought we did a good bouncing back,” Montevideo head coach Anthony Jackson said. The Thunder Hawks lost 65-29 Thursday at New London. “We did really nice defensively against BOLD.

“We have a lot of respect for BOLD. Their guard play especially was outstanding. They split with Sauk Centre this year, which really got our attention. They can play with a lot of (state-ranked) teams out there.”
Avery Koenen, the 6-foot-3 senior post, led the Thunder Hawks with 28 points and nine rebounds. Tenley Epema chipped in with 11 points and six rebounds.
