Girls gymnastics roundup: Litchfield Dragons knock off Willmar Cardinals

Prep girls gymnastics reports for Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2022, in west central Minnesota. Litchfield scores a 133.900 to beat Willmar's 129.100 in a non-conference meet. Benson/KMS also prevails.

WILLMAR — Olivia Holmgren led the way as the Litchfield gymnastics team secured a victory over host Willmar on Tuesday night.

The Dragons beat the Cardinals 133.900-129.100.

Holmgren finished the dual with a combined all-around score of 33.7, beating Willmar’s Kylie Porttiin’s 33.525. Holmgren’s top finish was second in the floor exercise with an 8.725.

Raina Kaping (floor, 8.8), Emma Brown (balance beam, 8.65) and Grace Borowicz (uneven bars, 8.1) all took first place for the Dragons.

The Cardinals took the top three spots in the vault with Mallory Beier first (9.2) and Porttiin and Kim Joneson tying for second (9.1).

Litchfield is host to Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted and Maple Lake for a triangular at 5:30 p.m. Friday. Willmar stays at home Thursday for a Central Lakes Conference dual against Sauk Rapids, starting at 6 p.m.

Benson/KMS 134.100, Redwood Valley 125.750

Benson/Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg out-scored Redwood Valley in all four events to record the victory at Redwood Falls.

It was the Libby McGeary show for Benson/KMS. She took first in all four events to win the all-around scoring with 36.000 points.

Redwood Valley’s Avery Wilson was second in the all-around with a 34.775.

Benson/KMS hosts MAHACA for a dual meet at 6 p.m. Friday in Benson.
