Girls tennis: Litchfield Dragons go 1-2 at their own quadrangular

Litchfield beats Minnewaska, falls to Rock Ridge and Elk River

LITCHFIELD — The Litchfield girls tennis got some more experience in its home opener on Wednesday as host of the Litchfield Quadrangular.

The Dragons beat section foe Minnewaska 7-0 and fell to two state powers, Rock Ridge of Virginia 5-2 and Elk River 7-0.

Against Minnewaska, Litchfield’s closest victory came at No. 1 singles. Ryanna Steinhaus beat Alia Randt 5-7, 6-1, 10-7.

Against Rock Ridge, the Dragons won in three sets at No. 1 doubles and lost in three sets at No. 4 singles.

At No. 1 doubles, Litchfield’s Lauren Erickson and Olivia Olson beat Katelyn Torrel and Anna Beaudette 1-6, 6-4, 10-7. At No. 1 singles, Rock Ridge’s Mayme Scott prevailed over Kaitlyn Palmer 5-7, 6-0, 10-8.

Against Elk River, Litchfield’s closest match came at third doubles. The Elks’ Tillie Johnson and Delany Lundquist beat the Dragons’ Amelia Benson and Anna Stilwell 7-6, 6-3.

Elk River finished sixth in the state last year in Class AA. Litchfield took second in Class A. The Dragons next compete at 3 p.m. Monday when they are host to another quadrangular. Competing schools include Wright County Conference opponent New London-Spicer, Rocori and Minneapolis Washburn.
