Girls tennis: NLS tunes up with a sweep of the Mainstreeters

Prep girls tennis report for Monday, Sept. 26, 2022, in west central Minnesota. New London-Spicer wins 7-0 over Sauk Centre to set up a showdown Tuesday at Osakis. It's a matchup of top Section 6A teams and will help determine seedings when the playoffs begin.

NEW LONDON — With a key Section 6A matchup looming, the New London-Spicer girls tennis team got a nice tune-up on Monday.

The Wildcats did not drop a set in a 7-0 victory over the Sauk Centre Mainstreeters.

At Nos. 2 and 3 singles, NLS’ Amyra Gamez and Ella Wieland both won 6-0, 6-0. Emily Ruter was right behind them at No. 4 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win.

The dominance continued in doubles play, with Brianna Wileman and Madisyn Claseman leading the charge. The duo won at No. 3, 6-1, 6-1.

“Another beautiful night for tennis,” said NLS head coach Chad Schmiesing. “We have a big section match (on Tuesday) with Osakis that should determine (the) number two and number three seeds for the playoffs.”


The Wildcats/Silverstreaks match is set for 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in Osakis.
