Golf roundup: LQPV girls, BBE boys lookin' good

WILLMAR — The Lac qui Parle Valley girls golf team is the defending state champion. And while it's a new season with a new lineup, the Eagles appear headed to an opportunity to repeat as champs.
The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa boys, meanwhile, are hoping to earn a state Class A berth. The Jaguars are well on their way, holding a two-stroke advantage on defending section champion Benson at the Section 5A tournament.
It was Day 1 of the two-day tournament at Eagle Creek Golf Course. Day 2 is Wednesday at Eagle Creek.

At stake is a berth in the state Class A tournament June 14-15 at Pebble Creek Golf Course in Becker.
The LQPV girls shot a 353 and have a 26-stroke advantage on BOLD, which also qualified for last year's state tournament in a different section.
The Eagles' Sarah Halvorson led the way with a 79. She's defending state Class A co-champion. Last year at state, she tied for first with Emily Stueland of Park Christian of Moorhead. Stueland has graduated.

Isabella Jacobs and Molly Halvorson are tied for second. Each shot 87s.
On the boys side, things are a lot closer.
BBE's Gannon Walsh is in the lead with a 77. BBE has a 338. Benson has a 340 and Dawson-Boyd is at 351.
In second place is LQPV's Carson Besonen, who shot 79. Benson's Ryan Holifson is in third with an 80.

There is a four-way tie for fourth place. Dawson-Boyd's Collin Swedzinski, MACCRAY's Gavin Husman, BBE's Brady Schwinghammer and Benson's Brady DeHaan all shot 82s.
