Golf roundup: Willmar Cardinals tie for fourth at Fergus Falls

FERGUS FALLS — Putting together a round of 333 on Wednesday, the Willmar boys golf team finished in a tie for fourth in a Central Lakes Conference meet at Pebble Lake Golf Course.

Sartell took home the team title after scoring a 309. Alexandria was second with 312, followed by Fergus Falls with 332. Willmar tied with Brainerd.

Nathan Marthaler was the top golfer for Willmar. The junior tied for 10th with a round of 80. Jacob Streed also placed in the top 15, tying for 14th with an 83. Jordan Gorans and Justuce Gee rounded out the team score with 85s.

There was a four-way for first place. Brainerd’s Dawson Ringler, Alexandria’s Braeden Sladek, and Sartell’s Lucas Greenlum and Lance Hamak all shot 75s, splitting medalist honors.

Willmar will host Day 1 of the CLC championship meet at 9 a.m. Friday at Eagle Creek Golf Club. Day 2 is set for 4 p.m. Monday at Blackberry Ridge Golf Club in Sartell.

The Classic Invitational

Host Brainerd held off Detroit Lakes to win its home meet at the Classic at Madden’s Golf Course in Brainerd.

The Warrior girls won with a score of 333, besting the Lakers by three strokes. Pequot Lakes (361), Minnewaska/Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa (366) and Moorhead (380) rounded out the top five.

Minnewaska/BBE’s top golfer was Berkley Steffen. She tied for 11th with an 89.

Litchfield tied with Sartell for eighth place with 400. Kaity Kusler paced the Dragons after tying for 13th with 90.

Detroit Lakes’ McKenna Mallow and Brainerd’s Izzy Olson tied for medalist honors with 80s.

Pre-Section 3AA meet

Minnewaska’s Riley Larson shot a 3-under par 69 to lead the Minnwaska boys to a win in the pre-Section 3AA meet at Oakdale Golf Club in Buffalo Lake.

The Lakers won with a score of 299. Luverne was second with 326, followed by Morris/Chokio-Alberta at 355.

Taking medalist honors, Larson scored four birdies during his round compared to just one bogey. He beat Morris/CA’s Charlie Hanson by five strokes.

Renville County West’s Ryan Schrupp took second with an 87.
