PARK RAPIDS — The Willmar boys golf team wrapped up its season at Day 2 of the Section 8AAA championship Friday at Headwaters Golf Club.
The Cardinals had three individuals competing for a chance to make the state tournament.
Junior Joey Wisocki had Willmar’s top finish. He shot a 79 on Friday to bring his two-day total to 158, good for ninth place. He was two strokes off from Moorhead’s Easton Lammers and Brainerd’s Max Holmstrom, who made state after tying for fifth for 156s. The section team champion goes to state along with the top five individuals not on the winning team.
Willmar junior Nathan Marthaler carded an 81 on Day 2. He finished tied for 16th with a total of 162. Sophomore Deiken Carruthers finished with an 84 on Friday, and was tied for 34th with a two-day 172.
Down by four strokes heading into Day 2, Alexandria put together a 312 and won the section with a total of 628. Brainerd, which led after Day 1, had a 320 on Day 2 and finished second with 632.

Moorhead’s Joe Kortan was the section medalist after a two-day total of 149. Sartell’s Carson Andel placed second with 153.
