Gymnastics roundup: Sauk Rapids holds off Willmar

SAUK RAPIDS — Willmar gymnastics fell short against Sauk Rapids on Thursday at Sauk Rapids.

The Storm defeated the Cardinals 137.975-132.775.

Sauk Rapids senior Liberty Kosloski won the all-around competition. She totaled 35.350 and won the vault and the floor titles along the way, scoring 9.100 and 8.850.

Willmar junior Lyndi Koosman finished second in the all-around with 34.225. Her highest placing routine came on the uneven bars, where she took first with an 8.775. Her highest score came on the vault at 9.000, good for third place.

Outside of Koosman, freshman Carlee Brown had one top-three placing for the Cardinals. She took third on the floor with a score of 8.450.

Willmar is 2-4 in Central Lakes Conference duals and 3-5 overall. Sauk Rapids is 2-1 in the conference and 3-2 overall.

The Cardinals play host to Melrose at 6 p.m. Thursday at Willmar.

Led by defending state champion Reagan Kelley, Watertown-Mayer/Mound-Westonka got the home win over Wright County Conference rival New London-Spicer at Watertown.

W-M/M-W is ranked eighth in Class A with an average score of 137.400 in the Jan. 23 poll from the Minnesota Girls Gymnastics Coaches Association. NLS is ranked sixth with an average of 139.125.

Kelley won all four events for the Royals and took the all-around with a combined score of 38.4. She is the defending Class A champion in the all-around and balance beam. Teammate Maggie McCabe was second in the all-around at 35.625.

Ciera Anderson was the Wildcats’ top gymnast with a third-place score in the all-around at 35.4. She placed second in the uneven bars at 8.7. NLS’ Abby Knudsen was second in the vault with a 9.275.
