Hockey Roundup: Willmar girls shut out Morris/Benson

Prep hockey report from west central Minnesota for Friday, Feb. 3, 2023. Poe, Gorans score two apiece for Cardinals in 6-0 victory

BENSON — Samantha Poe and Ryah Gorans both notched a pair of goals to help the Willmar girls hockey team get back into the win column against Morris/Benson Friday at the Benson Civic Center.

The Cardinals won, 6-0.

Poe added an assist to her two goals to tie Macee Hansen for a team-high three points. Hansen recorded one goal and two assists. Gretchen Volk and Avery Olson both had two assists.

Storm goaltender Ava Breuer made 43 saves. Cardinals goaltender Halle Mortensen earned a shutout with 11 saves.

MBA plays Northern Lakes in its season finale at 6 p.m. Monday at Breezy Point Sports Center. Willmar plays River Lakes in its season finale at 7:15 p.m. at Willmar Civic Center.

River Lakes 6, Prairie Centre 2

River Lakes secured its third straight win in a non-conference game against Prairie Centre at River Lakes Civic Arena in Richmond.

Over the last three games, the Stars have outscored their opponents 16-6. They move to 7-12-1 on the season. Prairie Centre drops to 5-15-0.

River Lakes plays Fergus Falls at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday at Richmond.
