WILLMAR — With three unanswered goals in the third period, the New Ulm Steel put away the Willmar WarHawks on Friday night.
Led by a hat trick from Gus Cantwell, New Ulm secured a 6-3 win in the NA3HL West Division at the Willmar Civic Center Arena.
Cantwell, a 5-foot-9 forward from St. Paul, has 20 goals this season for the Steel. Two of his goals on Friday came in the third period. The other came from Bryce Hall, who got the run going with his third tally of the season.
The WarHawks built a 2-0 first-period lead with goals from Blaise Schutt and Christian Kankelfritz. Schutt is a 5-foot-11 forward from Elk River. Kankelfritz is a 6-3 forward from Fargo, North Dakota.
Down 3-2 in the second period, Willmar tied it up with 1 minute, 25 seconds left before intermission on an unassisted goal from Tyler Misialek. Misialek, a 5-7 forward from Fargo, has 10 goals this season.
