Wolverines wrap up state with an 8-7 win over New Ulm Cathedral

ST. CLOUD — The MACCRAY baseball team locked up the Class A consolation championship in dramatic fashion.

Tied 7-7 in the bottom of the seventh inning Wednesday against New Ulm Cathedral, Brooks Asche hit a walk-off double that scored Gavin Husman to give the Wolverines the 8-7 victory at Joe Faber Field.

Earlier in the day, MACCRAY beat Bertha-Hewitt//Verndale 5-1 in the consolation semifinals at Bob Cross Park in Sauk Rapids. New Ulm Cathedral defeated South Ridge of Culver 8-4.

The Wolverines close out the 2022 season with a 17-7 record.

In the championship semifinals, Hayfield beat East Grand Forks Sacred Heart 6-0 and Randolph defeated New York Mills 4-3.


Hayfield and Randolph play for the state Class A championship at 10 a.m. Friday at Target Field in Minneapolis.

John Klein signed a minor league uniform player contract with the Minnesota Twins.
