EDEN PRAIRIE — The Willmar wrestling team made quick work of two Twin Cities teams Thursday at the Eden Prairie triangular.

The Cardinals beat the host Eagles 69-12 and also knocked off Lakeville South 77-6.

“We knew going into the (Lakeview South) dual, with that many forfeits, it wasn’t going to be a close team score,” Willmar head coach Ed Oehlers said. “Our guys came out to wrestle. We told the guys to block out that road noise and focus on the task at hand.”

Willmar is ranked seventh in Class AAA.

Against Eden Prairie, the first match that didn’t end in a pin or forfeit for Willmar came at 160 pounds. Jonas Anez decisioned the Eagles’ Jacory Bates, 9-2. It was the only match in the dual that didn’t end in a pin or forfeit for either side.
