Softball roundup: Watertown-Mayer earns the sweep over Litchfield

LITCHFIELD — The Litchfield softball team was swept by Watertown-Mayer in a Wright County Conference West Division doubleheader on Tuesday.

In Game 1, Watertown-Mayer’s Abby Otterness out-dueled Litchfield’s Taylor Draeger to record a 1-0 victory.

In Game 2, the Royals beat Litch 13-3 in five innings.

Otterness pitched in both victories. In Game 1, the Watertown-Mayer junior struck out 12, walked one and allowed four hits, one each to Liv Holmgren, Karlee Prahl, Izzy Pennertz and Cam Iverson.

In Game 1, Draeger struck out eight, walked no one and allowed two hits and no earned runs.

In Game 2, the Royals scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth to end it because of the 10-run rule.

Otterness went 3-for-4 with three runs and five RBI at the plate.

Five players had hits for Litchfield.

Makayla Wigern tossed a six-inning shutout in Glencoe-Silver Lakes’ victory over New London-Spicer at Glencoe.

Wigern struck out two, walked one and allowed three hits. Miranda Litzau slugged three home runs and drove in seven runs for the Panthers.

Sadie Hatlestad was 2-for-3 with a double for the Wildcats.

Nyla Johnson and Mallory Johnson had hits for NLS.

The Wildcats are host to Paynesville on Thursday, then play Friday at Montevideo.

Sauk Centre cruised to a home win over Minnewaska at Sauk Centre.

Kadence Roeske went 3-for-4 with three doubles and six RBI as Paynesville beat Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa in four innings at Brooten.

Paige Ludwig went 2-for-3 with two runs, a double and an RBI for the Bulldogs, who received a strong pitching performance from Madison McNaab. McNab pitched a two-hitter, striking out three and walking two.

Paynesville is now 7-7 in the Central Minnesota Conference and 9-9 overall. The Bulldogs play at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at New London-Spicer.

Anderson struck out seven and walked one, scattering four hits. Josie Gjerde went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI for the Fighting Saints.

Caylee Weber was 4-for-4 with a double and a run for the Jaguars.

Shakira Olson and Kari Jensen were both 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Fighting Saints. Jensen added a double. Maddie Anderson went the distance for her second win of the day.

Delaney Tersteeg, Laila Ridler and Maura Hagen each had a hit for the Jaguars.
