BROOKLYN CENTER — The Montevideo girls basketball team's first trip to the state tournament will begin against the top seed.
The Thunder Hawks (25-3) are unseeded and will open the Class AA state tournament against No. 1 seed Providence Academy (26-4). Seeds were announced by the Minnesota State High School League on Saturday morning.
Montevideo and Providence Academy will play at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Williams Arena on the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis.
The Lions advanced to state after beating Holy Family Catholic 95-81 on Friday to win the Section 5AA championship.
The Thunder Hawks are state bound after winning the Section 3AA championship Friday with a 43-32 win against Fairmont.

Other first-round games in the Class AA tournament:
- No. 2 Fergus Falls (24-5) vs. Pequot Lakes (29-1), 6 p.m. at Maturi Pavilion.
- No. 4 Albany (23-5) vs. No. 5 Rochester Lourdes (21-7), 8 p.m. at Williams Arena.
- No. 3 Minnehaha Academy (24-5) vs. Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial (26-4), 8 p.m. at Maturi Pavilion.
The Class AA state championship is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, March 19 at Williams Arena.
