Track and field roundup: Paynesville girls take second, ACGC boys finish 3rd at conference meet

Prep track and field report for Tuesday, May 17, 2022, in west central Minnesota. Eden Valley-Watkins/Kimball edges Paynesville and Holdingford and EVW/K finish ahead of Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City at the Central Minnesota Conference championships in Belgrade.

BELGRADE — The Paynesville girls finished second and the Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City boys were third Tuesday in the Central Minnesota Conference track and field championships.

Paynesville scored 129.5 points to finish behind Eden Valley-Watkins/Kimball, which had 241.

Holdingford won the boys’ division with 150.2 points to edge EVW/K, which had 147.7. ACGC scored 114.

Paynesville had two champions: Grace Roberg in the 1,600-meter run and Isabella Edmond in the pole vault. Roberg’s time was 5 minutes, 40.37 seconds. Edmond cleared 8 feet, 6 inches.

ACGC took six first places in the boys’ competition. Landon Blom had three of them. He won the 110 high hurdles in 17.02 and the 300 hurdles in 44.16. He also took first in the high jump with a leap of 5-10.

Alex Kokenge won two events for the Falcons. He won the discus with a toss of 123-8 and the shot put with a heave of 42-2.5.

ACGC’s 4x800 relay team of Mason Studemann, Mason Johnson, Brady Lyons and Jevon Williams won in 9:17.77.
