Track and field roundup: Willmar trio competes at Elite Meet

ST. PAUL — Three Willmar track and field athletes competed at the Hamline Elite Meet at Hamline University.

The Cardinals’ best finish came from freshman Lauren Eilers. Running in the girls’ 3,200-meter run, Eilers placed fifth at 11 minutes, 13.43 seconds. The winner was Nevis’ Jade Rypkema in 10:45.59.

Senior Nina Dawson ran in the girls’ 800, placing seventh in 2:18.13. Burnsville’s Zoie Dundon won after crossing the finish line at 2:14.16.

In the boys’ 800, senior Colin O’Farrell took eighth at 1:59.64. The winner was Farmington’s Ramy Ayoub at 1:56.08.

Litchfield senior Dom Dietel competed in the boys’ shot put. He finished in sixth place with a toss of 52 feet, 0.25 inches. Tracy-Milroy-Balaton’s Tony Nelson, a University of Minnesota football commit, won with a toss of 64-5.5.

EV-W/Kimball Invitational

The Eden Valley-Watkins/Kimball girls and Foley boys claimed the team titles at the EV-W/Kimball invitational at Kimball.

The EV-W/Kimball girls won the team title with 202.5 points, beating Foley’s 163 and Long Prairie-Grey Eagle’s 78. The Foley boys had 172.5 points, besting St. Cloud Tech’s 116.5 and EV-W/Kimball’s 109.

Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa girls and boys both finished in eighth place. The Jaguar girls had 29.5 points while the boys had 26. BBE swept the shot put, with Olivia Thieschafer winning for the girls at 31 feet, 5.5 inches, and Branton Jones winning for the boys at 41-1.
